Palanga day two, and a bit late, computer problems!!

Breakfast was interesting, the selection of cereals was straight forward as was the cold trays of salad, sliced meats, cheese etc.  The hot stuff and a dish of what looked like egg mayonnaise were a bit more unusual; the first hot tray was in three sections, one had two types of sausage in (both good), the second had a pile of thinly rolled pancakes filled with cream cheese (also very nice) and the third was what looked like porridge (and was porridge!), anyway, it went down well with the sausages and pancakes.  The second hot tray was fried eggs in one half and boiled eggs in the other, I knew where I was with them; two extra boiled eggs go into the pocket for lunch along with bread and cheese.  The egg mayonnaise had slivers of raw fish mixed in with it, also very tasty!!

Enough of food, culture to be looked at.

First item on the agenda was the sculpture park passing on the way a house listed as 'Z'

Antano Moncio I understand was an architect, the house is now a museum (which wasn't open) but by the path to the left was what I thought a bit of neat chainsaw work.

On to the sculpture park

Constructor

The Tiny Sun

Dosnumas, Generosity

Aloyzas Taleikis Irute

Skylark

The First Constructors

Just a flavour of some of the exhibits, they are changed every few months.

Next on the list was the Botanical Park via:-

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Below, the memorial to those who suffered during the Soviet occupation.

The Main Gates to the Botanical Park

And warm enough for a picnic, boiled egg, bread and cheese.

Erse Queen of Serpents

The Big Hoose built by (for) Comte de Feliks Tyszkiewicz in 1896, apparently very pious he had the statue Christ's Blessing commissioned in 1907.  The house is now a museum and also houses the Palanga Amber Museum and fascinating it was too.

Tradesmen's Entrance.

Samogittian Hill, home to the Curonian People 3 - 5th millennium.  The markers show part of their burial ground and also where archaeological relics have been found.

In the grounds was another memorial to the Jews persecuted during the German occupation.

Yep, it's still there.

Time for a bottle of local culture in the sunshine!!
