Linejos Apartamentai.
Urba Hill Lighthouse. Atop a dune at the back of Nida and could be seen from both the Lagoon and the Baltic.
A pleasant nature trail took me from the lighthouse to the biggest sundial I've ever seen, the obelisk is covered in Curonian runes and is in the ideal spot, Parnidis Dune is 53 metres above sea level and catches the sunrise over the Lagoon and the sunset over the Baltic. The steps and marks take into account the solstice and the sun's height through the seasons.
The right edge of the shadow was just after 0900 and my watch showed a few minutes after 1100 which should be right as it's two hours ahead of UK time here.
Looking NE ish, Nida harbour in the background.
Marked on the tourist map as Death Valley, a wasteland of sand and scrub. The Russian border is just this side of the dark promontory sticking out into the Lagoon.
On the path back to Nida.
Some chair!!
Not good at 'selfies' but I had to have a sit and gaze out over the water.
An imaginative use of local resources!
Set into the walk of fame, a contemporary of Vytautis Karnagis (Benai, the wee man with the guitar), musician and was the main man in establishing the Curonian Festival as the cultural highlight of the Spit.
Back to the apartamentai, get some food on and prep for an early start tomorrow.
Just back from our own little trip to Arran. Been offline there for a week. Really enjoying the pics and the stories too. Hope the dash through the corner of Russia goes well. the spit of land looks terrific on the map. Catch up with your blog "on the other side". X X J & G
