Juodkrante. A walk past the sculptures and up the Witches Hill.

Sunny but still that chill on the breeze.

Smilga Hostel Apartamenti.

Traditional all timber buildings

Entitled The Window, the swan in the window stuck its head under water just at the wrong time!!

Naglis present for Naringa.  You'll meet Naglis and Naringa in a while.

Stone age sheep.  I like the sense of humour.

In 2000 UNESCO put the Curonian Spit on the list of Cultural Landscapes.

I'll look on line to see if I can find a map of the Spit, but basically the Lithuanian end (the rest of it is shared with Russia) is 35km long and about 2km at its widest, mostly around 1km wide.  It's a gigantic sand bar much of it covered with forest and is a nature reserve.  It's open to the Baltic at Klaipeda, hence the ferry crossing yesterday.

The four totems are beautifully carved and have the names of the main settlements on the Spit.  Smiltyne on the right, then Juodkrante, Pervaka and you can just read Nida on the left one.

Watch where you're sitting, this is the start of the Witches Hill

Fantastic carving!

Sit for too long and you could just get carried away!

Come on, keep it up!  There's not even anybody sat on it yet!!

There you go, I said you'd meet Naglis and Neringa at some point.

Could this be A bird in the hand is worth another ten or so up a tree?

Not easy to see clearly against the trees but you've got a maiden on the left and your Knight with spear about to skewer the dragon.  The figure on the right seems to be saying ......................................
I'll leave it up to you to decide.

Another wee hoose down by the shore

Just by the path was this lump of concrete with re-bar sticking out of it

Intrigued!  Thankfully part of the plaque was in English

!!!!

Two ducks having a paddle.

Back for more soup and noodles then prep for move down the road to Nida.  About 5km to go to Russia!!
